The Manhattan Headboard

This headboard from the Manhattan bedroom collection of the leader in ready-to-assemble furniture, Prepac, is much more than just the perfect accent for any sized bed. This headboard is no flat, one-dimensional accent. It is a fully functional unit with places for all those little things that you need a spot for. The queen and full headboards include three open-fronted compartments. The center one even has an adjustable shelf, allowing you do design your storage and display in the manner that best suits you.

The expansive surface of the 11" deep MDF top allows even more space for books, pictures, decorative items and essentials. The Manhattan headboard is carefully crafted using composite wood and Melamine laminate in an espresso finish. Prepac also offers a complete line of complimentary espresso-finished bedroom pieces, including a storage platform bed frame. The unit comes with all of the hardware necessary for assembly and is shipped flat in foam injection packaging. Simply wipe the headboard with a damp cloth to clean it. The MDF is not, however, waterproof, so care should be taken to immediately wipe up and dry any spills as it will disintegrate if left wet. For this reason it is important to use a coaster when setting beverages on the headboard.

There is no need to finish or varnish the headboard as it is already laminated. Prepac also has a one-year, free part replacement program on faulty parts. They also cover the Manhattan headboard with a 5 year limited warranty. The fully assembled double/queen headboard measures 65-3/4 inches wide by 11 inches deep by 43 inches high and weighs 73 pounds.

This functional yet stylish headboard is available at such a great price that you are sure to want one. If you have a narrow bedroom and don't have space for conventional nightstands, this headboard is a real lifesaver. If you have assembled other things, you should be able to assemble this. Be aware that some of the pieces are quite fragile before they are assembled. For this reason it is essential that you read the instructions carefully and get help with the larger pieces. I found that the simplest place to assemble our king-sized headboard was right on top of our bed and then, with the help of my husband, the transfer to the floor was no problem at all. I used the hole cutter on my drill to cut two holes in the back board to use as passage ways for electrical cords. In order to protect the thin finish on the backboard, it is best to do this before you tack the back onto the rest of the headboard. Simply hold the back against the assembled headboard, measure and mark the spot where the cords need to go through [this is easier with two people] and then move the back to a safe place to do your drilling. For best results with this, you should drill slowly. We are very happy with our Prepac Manhattan headboard.
